Valuable information Regarding Fuel Injector Repair

Fuel Injector Repair

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Fuel Injector Repair

Maintaining a properly functioning fuel injector is crucial for drivers, as it electronically injects the right amount of gasoline into the engine for optimal combustion. Failure to keep the fuel injection system in good condition can lead to engine damage over time. Long Beach, Bixby Knolls drivers should be particularly mindful of this.

There are several signs that indicate the need for fuel injection repair. Knocking sounds and excessive vibration may be caused by a partially blocked fuel injector that doesn’t allow enough fuel into the engine cylinder. A faulty fuel injector can cause the engine to misfire and trigger the engine management light. Different management lights may illuminate depending on which injector is affected. A leaky injector can cause fuel pressure in the fuel rail to decrease, preventing the engine from starting, and unburnt gasoline coming from the engine bay may indicate a leaky fuel injector. A malfunctioning fuel injector can cause the engine control unit to over-fuel, leading to decreased fuel efficiency, decreased engine torque, acceleration, and power, and affect the engine’s performance, even if the injectors are just dirty. A faulty solenoid at the top of the fuel injector can also cause problems as it generates a magnetic field that opens the injector.

Regular maintenance and timely fuel injector repairs are crucial for keeping engine components in good working order. With proper care, a fuel injector can last the lifetime of the engine. If you notice any of the above signs or believe your vehicle’s oxygen sensor isn’t working, or you’re not sure and would like to have your vehicle inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Replace Wheel Bearings

Are you looking to get your wheel bearings replaced? Orozco’s Auto Service in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls, provides essential assistance to drivers who may not be aware of the importance of their vehicle’s wheel bearings and the risks of failure. Failing to recognize the significance of this critical component can lead to costly repairs. Understanding the function of wheel bearings and recognizing when repairs are necessary is crucial, and Orozco’s ASE-certified mechanics can help.

Wheel bearings are crucial in reducing friction and allowing wheels to spin smoothly. They are housed in small rings within the wheel hub assembly and come in two common types: ball bearings and roller bearings. Ball bearings, on the other hand, are sealed and protected from dirt and grit, but if something goes wrong, they must be entirely replaced as they cannot be serviced.

Symptoms of failing wheel bearings include unusual noises such as clicking, grinding, or humming, uneven tire wear, loose steering, vibrations in the steering wheel, and wheel lock. Additionally, a dashboard warning light may indicate a malfunction in the ABS or traction control system.

If you notice any of these symptoms, it is critical to have your wheel bearings replaced by Orozco’s Auto Service in Bixby Knolls, Downtown. Generally, it is not feasible to replace a single bearing, and the entire wheel hub assembly must be replaced. Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Power Steering Fluid

To prevent expensive car damage and potential accidents, it is crucial to understand the implications of driving with a Power Steering fluid leak in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls. If there is a fluid leak, low fluid levels or fluid on the ground can cause unexpected situations, leading to accidents if the driver cannot react quickly. Additionally, the leak can cause significant damage to the vehicle, resulting in costly repairs or replacements.

Driving for extended periods without this critical fluid can cause damage to the pump. The decrease in fluid level causes the pump to run dry, resulting in increased friction and heat that can lead to expensive damage. Who Knew I May Need Oxygen Sensor Repair

Oxygen Sensor

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Oxygen Sensor Repair

The importance of the oxygen sensor in a vehicle’s exhaust system cannot be overstated as it affects emissions and the environment. Regrettably, many drivers in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls do not fully comprehend its significance.

This sensor, which is about the size of a spark plug, typically lasts between 35,000 to 50,000 miles and can cause the “check engine” light to turn on and decrease fuel efficiency if it fails.

Almost all vehicles have at least one oxygen sensor that measures the difference in oxygen levels between the exhaust gas and outside air. It then sends a voltage signal to the vehicle’s computer, which adjusts the air-fuel mixture to optimize engine performance.

If the sensor malfunctions, it can lead to increased emissions, poor fuel efficiency, and engine deposits. It may even damage other components such as the catalytic converter, resulting in more severe issues in the future.

Thankfully, Orozco’s Auto Service in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls employs certified ASE technicians who are equipped with diagnostic tools to promptly detect and replace faulty oxygen sensors. Keeping vehicles well-maintained and ensuring the oxygen sensor functions properly can aid drivers in optimizing fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and protecting the environment while also improving air quality for everyone.

Catalytic Converter Repair Valuable info

catalytic converter repair

Long Beach Bixby Knolls, Catalytic Converter Repair

Catalytic converters are an essential part of a vehicle’s exhaust system found in most modern cars. Their purpose is to convert harmful exhaust gas particles into harmless water vapor and CO2 through the use of a catalyst, typically made of precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, or palladium, making them a target for theft.

Fixing a catalytic converter can be complex and should only be performed by experienced professionals like Orozco’s Auto Service in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls. The process may involve welding and replacing the vehicle’s oxygen sensors. The main cause of catalytic converter damage is short trips that don’t allow the exhaust to reach high enough temperatures for proper burn-off of deposits. To prevent this, it’s recommended to take the vehicle on a 15-minute highway drive regularly.

Signs of a failing catalytic converter include a check engine light, reduced power and fuel efficiency, a sulfurous odor, backfiring or misfiring, and a rough engine. If the converter is not working correctly, the check engine light will turn on and the engine’s performance and fuel efficiency will decrease. Severe clogging of the converter will result in a flashing check engine light, potential engine stall or non-start, and internal engine damage from back pressure. A vehicle with a faulty catalytic converter will fail a smog test and cannot be registered.

At Orozco’s Auto Service in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls, we recommend addressing any catalytic converter problems quickly to avoid expensive repairs and engine damage. Regular maintenance, including highway drives, can prolong the converter’s lifespan and save money in the long run. Important Info For Suspensions and CV Boot Repair

axle repair

Long Beach Bixby Knolls CV Boot Repair

Drivers in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls areas should be aware of the importance of a component in their vehicle’s maintenance known as the constant velocity (CV) boot. The CV boot is a small rubber encasement that covers the CV joint and is responsible for keeping the grease inside. If the boot becomes damaged, it can expose the CV joint and cause it to fail over time. The CV joint plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the vehicle by preventing the axle from breaking when a driver hits a bump, and also keeping the wheels aligned and turning.

Each vehicle has two CV joints, one located at the transmission and the other at the wheel. As the vehicle moves over the road, the joint must be well-lubricated to allow for the necessary movements and angles. However, CV boots are prone to damage from road debris or age and should be regularly inspected to ensure proper function. At Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls, certified ASE technicians inspect the CV boots every time a vehicle comes in for service.

If the boots are found to be damaged and not replaced, grease will leak out and contaminants such as water and damaging particles will enter the joint. Warning signs of a broken CV joint include grease splatter on the inside of the wheel, visible damage, or vibration while driving. If a serious vibration or clicking or popping noise is heard when turning, the entire CV axle should be replaced along with new CV boots. It is essential to address any issues related to the CV joint and boots to avoid costly repairs and potential accidents on the road.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or are not sure and would like to have your CV Boots inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. There are some signs that everyone should be aware of that your power steering may soon be in need of repair.  Your steering wheel could be difficult turning. You may notice a whining or squealing noise. You may notice leaking red power steering fluid near the steering gear or rack. Your vehicle may be pulling to one side, which could be a steering gear is worn and or can be caused by lack of lubrication from power steering fluid.

Have you ever started turning onto Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach and thought what would happen if my power steering went out on this sharp turn? Of course this is a rare scenario, but if it does happen, don’t panic. Your vehicle’s power steering provides you with an electronic or hydraulic assist in turning your front wheels. So besides “don’t panic” another important and simple thing you should do is communicate. As in any emergency situation on or off the road is it’s vital to let others around you know that something has gone wrong. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to turn on your hazard lights so that everyone around you can see that there’s a problem. And that you’re starting to slow down or that there may be an issue with your vehicle.  Whenever getting into a new vehicles it’s always a good idea to find were the hazard lights button is located.

As you gently lower your speed, keep a firm grip on the wheel at all times and don’t hit your brakes too hard, especially if the road conditions are slick from snow or rain. Lack of power steering will make the steering wheel feel heavier than normal as you turn, and it will also make the front wheels less responsive to your actions. Maintain keeping calm and ease into the brakes slowly.

Next, you should look for a safe spot on the side of the road where you can pull over safely. You will still be able to steer the vehicle, even if it’s more difficult. Remember that turning the wheel requires more effort as your vehicle slows. Give yourself as much room to turn as possible. Even though the turning radius of the vehicle hasn’t changed, your ability to make that turn quickly will be reduced.

Once you get your vehicle to a safe spot, if the power steering is completely out, this may be a good time to call for a tow truck or Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls to help you arrange a tow. Driving a vehicle with no power steering can be a challenge for even the best of drivers, so if you don’t feel safe driving, always side with caution and get help.

Electrical Power Steering relies on an electrical motor and sensors on the steering column. By analyzing the input from the steering wheel, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) then sends a signal to an electronic motor, that is located at the base of the steering column.

The Hydraulic Power Steering System relies on the engine’s power, a hydraulic pump, and the hydraulic fluid to steer the vehicle. With the combination of the hydraulic pump and the vehicle’s engine, it applies force on the steering gear by pumping hydraulic fluid to the power steering pump. The power steering fluid is stored in a depressurized form within the power steering reservoir, and only when needed the power steering pump pressurizes the fluid and deliver it to assist you’re steering.

If you’re concerned about any of your power steering or you would like to have your steering inspected call the experts at Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember to always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Parking Brake Repair | Emergency Brake Repair

Too many people in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls sometimes to forget to disengage the emergency brake before beginning to drive off. From that time forward it seems like it never has that new car strength after that. So for those that did forget here’s some great info about your emergency brake /parking brake. First off, why do some vehicles have a parking brake, and some have an emergency brake and now more vehicles are coming even coming out with an electronic brake? Also does Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls repair or inspect them when I go in for service? Lastly why does my emergency / parking brake seem less effective over time?

Depending on the manufacturer of your vehicle the emergency brake and parking brake are essentially the same thing. But for whatever reason each manufacturer may call it one or the other. This component of your vehicle has to perform two distinct operations. It needs to be able to hold on an incline, and be able to stop your vehicle within a specific distance if the primary brakes fail. Second, absolutely, Orozco’s Auto Service will inspect and suggest any repairs necessary to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive when you stop in for any service.

Whether it’s an older vehicle or new one, all vehicles have at least two brake systems. The “service brake” is your main braking system, this is the one that activates when you press the brake pedal. A booster called the “brake cylinder” amplifies the force, sending hydraulic pressure to the brakes at each wheel. The secondary brake system the parking / emergency brake is independent of the primary brake system, controlled by by levers or cables.

as your vehicle ages or when you forget to disengage the e-brake as it’s also sometimes referred to, the secondary brake system’s cables can become stretched out, which creates slack that increases the lever or pedal to completely secure your vehicle. If all the adjustments are maxed out, the cable will need to be replaced. This isn’t something just any weekend auto repair warrior should perform on their own. Brakes are an important component of your vehicle’s safety system and should only be worked on by a certified ASE mechanic, like the ones at Orozco’s Auto Service.

These days a growing number of vehicles are equipped with an electronic parking brake that can automatically engages the parking brake when the transmission is shifted into park or a lever or button is pressed. This system is very efficient because it can reduce the length of the cable or eliminate cable all together. Some systems even have a built in program that self adjusts slack in the system that runs at regular intervals.

If you believe your vehicle’s parking brake or brake system needs service or are not sure and would like to have your brakes inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember to always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Muffler Exhaust Repair

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Loud Muffler Repair

Image you are driving down Atlantic Avenue when all of a sudden your vehicle sounds like a 4th of July fireworks finally. With all this noise most people will know it’s time for a new muffler or exhaust system repair, but what they don’t know is how important the exhaust system is for your vehicle’s  well being. The exhaust system, which includes your muffler, directs exhaust fumes away from you and your passengers, it improves engines performance, it improves fuel consumption and lastly your catalytic converter that is part of your exhaust system helps to keep pollutants from escaping into our beautiful blue skies.

So just in case your muffler goes out Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls would like to share some important information about your exhaust system’s components from your engine to the tailpipe(s). The beginning of your vehicles exhaust journey starts at the exhaust manifold (sometimes referred to as headers) to remove combustion gases from the cylinders. The manifold is linked to a catalytic converter that cleans up the chemical mixture before sending it down the line to a resonator and the muffler, both of which help mute the sound produced when the gases roar through your vehicle’s metal pipes. Imagine all that and it also maintains your peace and quite so you can play the radio distraction free.

With all those components there’s are many possible areas for an exhaust leak. Each of the exhaust system elements listed above are connected through welds and flanges, and with time and corrosion, these connections can start to loosen. One of the initial signs that exhaust gases are escaping prematurely is a ticking that gets louder or faster when you hit the gas. A ticking sound can also indicate a crack in an exhaust manifold or a hole in any part of the exhaust system. Depending on how serious the leak is, it can often be repaired with a patch or a fresh weld with the experts at Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls.

Luckily, mufflers don’t just stop working overnight without first giving you some pretty obvious clues that you may have an exhaust problem. Mufflers will usually last from 40,000 to 80,000 miles depending on the weather conditions in your area. Excessive water and salt on the the roads for snow can speed up the degradation which will in turn get incrementally louder as the interior chambers and sound-deadening materials break down. It’s not always easy to detect initially, but eventually you’ll notice that your vehicle is getting quit a bit louder. This generally means either there’s a large break in the exhaust system or your muffler that’s on its way out. Either way, this is a great time to Visit Orozco’s Auto Service and have it checked out.

If you notice your vehicle exhaust system is louder than usual or you hear any new ticking sounds or are not sure and would like to have your exhaust system inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Important Head Gasket Repair Information

Head Gasket Repair

Signs You Need A Head Gasket Repair: Bixby Knolls (Long Beach, CA)

With so many critical components in your engine it’s hard for people in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls to keep up with so many potential engine problems. One of those critical engine parts is the head gasket. Luckily, Orozco’s Auto Service knows all about Head Gasket Repair and is happy to share some helpful information. Here are some signs that there may be a problem with your head gasket. If you notice a blue or white smoke coming from your tailpipe or keep having to topping off your coolant, or when you top off your oil you notice a dirty frothy white substance under the cap then you may have an issue with your head gasket. If a blown head gasket, more than likely your vehicle could be in the shop for a few days.

Signs there’s a blown head gasket:

Blue exhaust smoke could be another indicator

Overheating is one of the less-obvious signs of a blown head gasket

Oil-contaminated coolant can form a mayonnaise-like film, which you might find on the radiator cap or in the overflow reservoir

Cylinder misfires are another sign of head gasket failure

Misfire on startup, accompanied by a puff of white exhaust

An external oil or coolant leak at the seam between the engine block and cylinder head

Here’s some valuable information about your head gasket.

When checking your oil the dipstick can have a dirty frothy consistency

After learning all those signs you may still be asking what the head gasket does. The first head gasket was invented way back in 1944 to help keep combustion engines stay cool. Combustion engines are filled with liquids and gases mixing so they can perform their specific functions. And the head gasket is designed help perform that task. It’s mounted between the engine block and the cylinder head. This is where the intake, exhaust and valves are also located. The head gasket is a thin seal that prevents liquids and gases from escaping into adjacent cylinders and the surrounding oil and coolant galleries. This seal (head gasket) is designed to keep coolant and engine oil separated. Just like that old saying oil and water don’t mix!

Additionally, engine coolant surrounds each cylinder in order to maintain a stable operating temperature; it also needs to flow into the cylinder heads to cool the combustion chamber, valve and spark plugs. The engine oil performs three important functions: lubrication, cooling and hydraulics. The oil pump sends pressurized oil throughout the engine to lubricate bearings, bushings, journals and timing chains. It also drives hydraulic actuators, such as variable valve timing. As we mentioned before, it’s a complicated repair. At Orozco’s Auto Service of Bixby Knolls we have the expertise to keep that oil and coolant separate and to repair that head gasket right the first time no matter what type of vehicle you drive.

If any of these signs are ignored it can lead to complete engine failure. The engine can over heat resulting in a seized engine, a warped or cracked head or even a blown piston rings, meaning you would need a complete rebuild for your engine. If you are worried you may have a blown or leaking head gasket Orozco’s Auto Service is your answer. Our ASE certified auto mechanics have been trained to repair all types of engines and we will always back up those repair with our 24/24 nationwide guarantee. Does Orozco’s Offer Hybrid Repair & Maintenance? YES!

Hybrid Repair & Maintenance

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Hybrid Repair & Maintenance

With so much excitement these days about going green and the worry of gas prices we often get asked if hybrid or electric vehicles will need to be serviced and maintained. And if so, do they need to find a specific auto shop for those types of vehicles. Sorry to say but yes, all vehicles electric and hybrid still need to be maintained. With that being said hybrids and electrics do have some pretty handy maintenance advantages. These are critical tasks that should always be addressed on all vehicles. Some of the more common services can be brakes, suspension, tires along with all those fancy extras on todays new vehicles. Not to mention the hybrids still have complete combustion engine. And to the second question, At Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls we love all types of vehicles and our Certified ASE technicians are qualified to work on combustion, hybrid and electric. Additionally, our technicians are required to maintain continued education for anything new that comes along as part of their ASE certification.

While brakes are one of you’re vehicle’s parts that always needs to be maintained on hybrids they need it at longer intervals. Hybrid vehicles use regenerative braking system that re-directs friction involved in stopping to replenish the batteries. That energy would otherwise be heat on your brakes and pads. So brake jobs are fewer and farther between. As previously mentioned there are still plenty of other standard vehicle elements that will still need to be maintained like windshield wipers, light bulbs, and cabin air filters. Not to mentioned all that additional battery weight can speed the wear on your tires.

While all vehicles do need maintenance you be happy to know hybrids and electric vehicles don’t require any type of special maintenance. Additionally, hybrid systems can reduce normal wear and tear on some conventional parts of the vehicle. When the electric motor takes over, the gas engine shuts down. Resulting in having far fewer miles than what’s showing on the odometer. Some manufacturer even suggest going long between oil changes. We always recommend following your auto’s manual for factory recommendations for any service.

With electric vehicles there are no gasoline engines at all, electric vehicles eliminate oil and filter changes, tune-ups, exhaust system maintenance, emissions tests, timing belt replacements and overall engine repairs. Yes, there is an electric motor, but that motor has less moving parts and requires little in the way of maintenance. And, like the hybrids we mentioned above, electrics use regenerative braking, which converts the friction into energy to replenish the battery instead of letting it become heat on your brakes and brake pads.

Electric and hybrid-specific parts are generally covered by factory warranties of at least 8 years and one hundred thousand miles. Some states, including CA, have mandated hybrid warranties of ten years and one hundred and fifty thousand miles, which includes the battery packs. As more hybrids are on the roads, the specialty lithium batteries have become less expensive. And there are stories of many hybrids still on the road with their original battery packs at 200,000 miles and more.

If you’re considering a electric or hybrid one thing to factor will the cost savings on maintenance and fuel offset the additional costs of the high tech vehicles? For electrics, you need to consider range. Can the car get you through a typical day without needing a recharge? Is there a charging station at work? Are you willing to pay to have one installed at home if that’s an option? And lastly there’s always that great feeling you’ll have knowing you are doing your part to help save our world.

Regardless of your decision Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls will be here to help maintain, service or repair any vehicle you choose. If you would like more information about hybrid or electric vehicles feel free to call Long Beach, Downtown today at 562-427-4256. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Everything To Know When To Replace Spark Plugs

replace spark plugs

Replace Spark Plugs In Long Beach Bixby Knolls

These days not a lot of people in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls know how important spark plugs really are. They are the essential spark that powers your vehicle’s engine. But when they wear out your vehicle isn’t going any wear. You’ll be happy to know there are signs that your spark plugs are reaching the end of their life. Some of those signs are your vehicle can feel a bit sluggish or your gas mileage is getting worse and then you remember when you last started your vehicle it took a few tries. If your vehicle is showing any of these signs, it may be time to replace spark plugs. And if ignored for to long you may not be able to start your vehicle and the worst expected time. At Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls our certified ASE technicians are more than qualified to troubleshoot these issues and determine if indeed it’s a spark plugs issue.

So, what exactly is a spark plug. Well. simple put, It’s an insulator and a central conductor with no moving parts.  Spark plugs come in a variety of styles and are specified by their size, specifically by nut or thread, sealing type and spark gap. The majority of today’s vehicles have a 14-mm thread; older vehicles had used 18-mm or 7/8-inch (approximately 22-mm) ones. Thread length varies as well, depending on the vehicle manufacturer and type of engine. The sealing type or seat is where the plug mates to the head. It can be flat or tapered again, depending on the manufacturer and engine type. Additionally, the amount of torque applied during installation ensures a secure fit. Typically, there is one plug for each cylinder, but there are exceptions. For example, the V8 Hemi engines used in various Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler products have 16 plugs, two per cylinder.

Todays spark plugs have a much longer life than say vehicles in the last pre 1990’s, with some lasting over 100,000 miles. Additionally, years ago most vehicles required a tune-up once a year to replace spark plugs and adjust points. Unfortunately, even with today’s high-tech spark plugs they do still wear out eventually, and if you’re finding it difficult to start your vehicle, it could mean that your spark plugs have met the end of their life. A visual inspection may reveal elements of bad spark plugs when removed. If you look at the plug from the cylinder and notice that the end has a burned or sandy looking deposits accumulated on the outer electrode, then it’s time to replace them. In a worst-case scenario, a wet accumulation of oil on the electrode may indicate not only that the spark plug is bad but also that there’s significant engine problem with oil leaking into the cylinders.

Other troubling signs you may notice include a rough idle, engine misfire or surge, weak acceleration or a spike in fuel consumption. In some vehicles the “check engine” light may come on. Feel free to visit Orozco’s Auto Service to have your vehicle’s “check engine” light diagnosed.

Changing spark plugs is a very important part of keeping your engine in good working order. Be sure to get yours replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals to ensure peak engine performance. You can find this information in your vehicles user manual. If you feel your vehicle may need new spark plugs or would like to have your vehicle diagnosed contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Fuel pump repair can be a complicated job because in most vehicles it’s inside the gas tank. Fortunately, Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls is always there to help you out with any of your fuel injection issues, including sharing this valuable information. Your vehicle’s fuel pump is the heart of your vehicle’s fuel system. And like your heart pumping blood throughout your body, the fuel pump sends precious fuel through your vehicle and if that fuel runs out so will your engine. The good news is, a faulty fuel pump isn’t a very common issue in newer vehicles but when you get a few years worth of miles on your odometer your vehicles key components start to wear our.

As we mentioned before, most fuel pumps are located inside the gas tank attached to a float and electrical connections that send information to your vehicle’s gas gage. It sucks up fuel and sends it through lines to your engine’s injectors, which meter out the proper amount of fuel for the most efficient combustion in your engine. Today’s fuel pumps meet manufacturer specifications for fuel volume. If it doesn’t meet up to these strict standards, you’re engine will run into all sorts of problems.

Here are some of the more common signs that your fuel pump is starting to wear out. Your vehicle can suddenly feels sluggish or a faulty ignition, engine misfires, lowered gas mileage, weak acceleration and a whining noise can all mean you may want to visit Orozco’s Auto Service before getting stranded.

Other issues may be low fuel pressure, you may have trouble starting your vehicle. It may crank longer than normal before firing up, or you might have to cycle the ignition on and off a few times to prime the necessary pressure. Once it starts, you might get a rough idle or stuttering while driving up hills or upon acceleration. On some occasions it may misfires or even just stall out and die completely.

Additional signs are that your engine temperature is higher than usual, as it struggles to keep up with uneven fuel supply. Occasionally, a failing pump will cause an engine to surge, because it’s no longer capable of consistent volume. You might hear the fuel pump itself struggling, which sounds like a whining or loud buzzing noise coming from your gas tank. Lastly, you may notice at the gas station when filling your tank: a failing fuel pump can reduce engine efficiency, which means your decrease mileage, something nobody wants these days.

Note that most of the above symptoms on their own may have other causes, but if you see one or more together, then it’s time to contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember to always keep your vehicle in good condition to ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Great Info About Rear Differential Repair

Differential Service

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Rear Differential Repair

If you go out to your car and notice tire damage on the sidewall or outer tread of a tire, your car becomes difficult to handle and doesn’t easily steer around corners well, the sound of grinding gears or a whining noise are also indicators that you should have your differential checked. Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls has the know how to repair or replace this critical component of your vehicle. Our ASE certified mechanics can repair your differential or transaxle in no time and back up that repair with a NAPA nationwide 2 year, 24,000 mile warrant.

But what is a rear differential? Well many Long Beach, Bixby Knolls drivers aren’t aware of their vehicles differential until something goes seriously wrong. Don’t worry, Orozco’s Auto Service would like to share some helpful information regarding your vehicle’s differential. Before front wheel drive came along, the majority of vehicles had a rear differential with a few exceptions such as Corvairs and Volkswagens. Four wheel drive vehicles have two differentials making things a bit different on these all terrane vehicles. Additionally all-wheel-drive vehicle has a third type of differential called a center differential. It helps distribute power between the front and rear axles since both do the job of steering your car. With four-wheel drive, there is a front and rear differential that’s called a transfer case located in the middle to manage and deliver power to all four wheels. These systems have the same goal as the others: ensuring smooth turns keeping the wheels from skipping or jumping. Nowadays and as before every vehicle has a some type of differential or transaxle, whether you have a rear one or not depends on the drive system. So what is a differential and how does it impact my vehicle?

If your vehicle has front-wheel drive, then it uses a front differential that is next to the transmission in a unit called the transaxle. A vehicle with rear-wheel drive has a rear differential that sits between the rear wheels and connects to the transmission through the drive shaft. Both front and rear differentials do the same thing, which is ensuring the your wheels move smoothly when you move around corners— just from different locations. But why does it smooth out your turns you ask? Simply put, a differential is a system that transmits your engine’s torque to the wheels. The differential takes the power from the engine and divides it, allowing the wheels to spin at different speeds when needed. Think of it as a marching band moving around a corner. The people on the outside of the turn take longer strides than the people on the inside to keep everyone in a perfect line. A differential acts in the same way for a car. It compensates for how the inner wheels don’t have to travel as far to get around a corner as the outer wheels.

If you’ve notice any of the previously mentioned signs of a failing differential or are not sure and would like to have your wheels inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256 . Maintain Your Headlights

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Headlamp Repair

Headlamp Repair has gone a long way over the past few years along with headlamp technology. Headlamps, can also be referred to as headlights. A good set of headlamps can really make the difference in hazardous weather. With a wide but focused beam of light they can save lives of you, your passengers from or wayward oncoming traffic. Most older vehicles had to settle for dull and discolored headlamps and quote often out of adjustments. Additionally, we can choose from the brightest white light or a 7-color RGB DRL Bar headlamp for off-road vehicles.

Finding the right replacement bulbs for your vehicle is crucial to a safe ride and maintaining visibility. Like many products out there, not all headlamps are the same. So you should always refer to your owner’s manual for the specific bulbs you may need. Do you need a whole replacement headlamp assembly or do you have an H4 conversion and only need to find a headlamp compatible with your housing. Visit Orozco’s Auto Service and our ASE certified technicians can make them look new again with special cleaners and polishes, and a hard protective finish. PROJECTOR HEADLAMPS – Once only found in European performance cars, but today they are common.

H4 CONVERSIONS – The most accessible aftermarket upgrade the average driver can make to their driving lights.

HID HEADLAMPS (XENON HEADLAMPS) – high-intensity headlamps give the most visibility to the driver. After filling a glass tube with Xenon gas, an arc of electric current is run through the bulb to produce incredibly hot plasma-filled white-blue lights.

REFLECTOR HEADLAMPS – These are the oldest of the bunch and were often considered dull stock headlamps.

HALOGEN HEADLAMPS – Combine two gasses to create a more efficient lighting environment than old-school filament bulbs.

Even though your headlamps are the most recognized lights on your vehicle there are also many other important lights. Brake lights, turn-signal lights, back-up lights, license-plate lights, fog lights, and more. With so many lights regular inspections should always be a regular part of your vehicles maintenance schedule. Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Check Engine Light & Diagnostics

Drivers in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls know that sinking felling you get when your cruising down Atlantic Avenue and all of a suddenly you notice the “Check Engine” Light lit up on your dash. And like so many drivers, you have no idea what it means, besides that it may cost money. Many auto technicians call it the one of the most misunderstood indicators on your vehicle. Because it can mean so many different issues, from a loose gas cap, your car isn’t getting its best fuel economy, your vehicle is emitting higher levels of pollutants or worst case scenario, a serious issues with your engine.

But not to worry, when you see the warning light it doesn’t mean you have to pull over immediately and call a tow truck. Although, it does mean if your in the area you should visit Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls and have it diagnosed at your soonest opportunity. Ignoring any warning from your vehicle may end up damaging some expensive components.

What is The “Check Engine” Light

The “check engine” light is a part of your vehicle’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) system. Since the ’80s, computers have controlled and monitored more of your vehicle’s performance. Regulating variables like engine speed (RPM), ignition timing, fuel mixture and in some cars, the computer tells automatic transmissions when it’s the best time to shift and more.

In some vehicles then the OBD finds a problem in the electronic-control system that it can’t correct, the computer turns on a yellow warning indicator that’s labeled “check engine,” “service engine soon” or “check powertrain.” Or the light may be nothing more than a picture of an engine, known as the International : “Check Engine” Symbol. In addition to turning on the light, the computer will store a trouble code in its memory to help identify the source of the problem. This may be a malfunctioning sensor or a misfiring engine. If you bring your vehicle in to Orozco’s Auto Service we have all the latest equipment to read the code with an electronic scan tool or a diagnostic computer.

Great tips on what to do If your check engine light comes on:

Start by checking your dashboard gauges and lights for any signs of of low oil pressure or overheating. These conditions mean you should pull over and shut off the engine as soon as you can find a safe place to do so. Some vehicle’s, a yellow “check engine” means investigate the problem, while a red “check engine” can mean stop as soon as it’s safe to pull over. Always refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the specific meaning for your warning lights.

After checking your gages, a simple steps is try tightening your gas cap, this usually solves the problem. Keep in mind that it may take several trips before the light resets. If the light continues to stay on feel free to visit Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls and we can reset it for you. Newer vehicle may have a separate indicator that warns of a loose gas cap before the condition sets off the “check engine” light.

Critical Brake Pads Replacement Info

brake pads

Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Brake Pads Replacement

Many of our loyal customers in Long Beach, Bixby Knolls are asking “what is the number one component on my vehicle that I should be most concerned about?” We tell them “they are the brakes of course”. Your brakes are what makes your vehicle come to a safe stop. They’re also one of the components that when they wear out over time can be a huge safety risk. The reason they wear out is because they use friction to help you vehicle stop.  Unfortunately, all that friction will eventually wear down your brake pads. Brake pads are made up of materials engineered to slow your vehicle without destroying the brake pad and brake disc each time they slow your vehicle, although, there is a slight bit of wear each time they are used.

Years ago brake pads used to be made of asbestos. Until it was discovered that asbestos was a carcinogen and associated with causing certain types of cancers and  that element was eventually fazed out of production. Now days auto manufacturers have engineered several new materials for making brake pads. These are generally named organic, semi-metallic and ceramic.

Organic –  Organic brake pads made from materials like rubber, glass, and Kevlar. They are softer than other types of brake pads, and make for a quieter slowing experience. As a softer material they tend to wear more sooner and create more dust and debris as they wear down. Additionally, because of their softer make, they don’t offer as much stopping power making them generally suited for light cars that don’t see heavy use.

Semi-Metallic – Semi-metallic pads, sometimes referred to as metallic pads, are a more sturdy product. As per their name, they are made from metal, such as iron shavings or bits of steel wire held together with graphite. Metal usually makes up about 30 to 65 percent of the brake pad, thus the name “semi-metallic”. Because metallic brake are hard, they provide good stopping power, but they put more wear on brake rotors / discs. The hard pads are also noisier than organic pads. Another con  is that metallic brake pads need to warm up before they work at their best. In very cold weather, they can take longer to achieve their maximum efficiency, so caution is always advised until your vehicle is fully warmed up.

Ceramic – Ceramic brake pads are even more durable. As you may have guessed per the name they are mostly made from ceramic materials, sometimes with small amounts of copper. The ceramics are better at dissipating heat, which helps keep them from wearing as quickly as other materials. Unfortunately,  that can mean that the rotors take on more heat, which can lead to warping the rotors. Ceramic pads tend to be more expensive. Ceramic pads are also lighter, which, paired with their heat resistance, makes them well suited to motorsport or aggressive driving. They also produce the least brake dust of any type of brake pads, and less noise than semi-metallic pads.

How often should you have your brakes checked

Most vehicles have a few ways to tell if you need brake service. Some brake systems have a metal scraper attached to the pads that creates a warning alarm by squealing or screeching when they wear to a certain level. Even though the sound is very disconcerting and annoying it’s usually harmless, unless ignored. If the noise is less of a screech and more of a grumbling, grinding sound, the pads at one or all of the wheels may be completely worn, and continued use of your vehicle can cause serious damage to the rotor(s). If you hear grinding when slowing down you should contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls ASAP. Most all vehicle’s today have brake-pad sensors that let the driver when the brakes need be checked via a warning light on the dash or a message showing when you start your vehicle. You should never wait to replace the brake pads, considering functional brakes are a top priority. From a safety standpoint, they are more important than the engine. Due to the fact, a poorly maintained engine could result in engine needing a new engine. But poorly maintained brakes can be life-threatening.

To be sure that your vehicle is always able to make the safest stops, we recommend changing the brakes before they exhibit the irregularities mentioned above. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual should have recommendations for inspecting the pads at every oil change because the life of brake-pad can vary greatly, depending on your driving style, whether and driving conditions. Brake pads should always be replaced when they reach their service limit, which is usually measured at about 0.1 inch.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or you believe your vehicle’s needs new brake or are not sure and would like to have your brakes inspected, contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Info – Diesel Engine Repair for Cars & Trucks

Diesel Auto Repair

Car & Truck Diesel Engine Repair – Long Beach Bixby Knolls

Imagine another beautiful day in Long Beach and getting into your diesel truck or car and head down Atlantic Avenue to the Beach and suddenly notice heavy black smoke billowing from your vehicle or your engine is making more noise than a freight train. These are just a couple of signs that may indicate it’s time for some diesel engine repair. Even though diesel engines are an incredibly durable and reliable engine, sometime like most machines they will eventually fail.

That being said, when that does happen and you are looking for a reliable and affordable diesel engine technician, try Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach, Bixby Knolls. We know diesel engine repair for all makes and models. Below are a few more signs that you may have problems with your diesel engine. Stalling engine, lower running RPMs, acceleration issues, engine is difficult to start, electrical problems and more. As highly-skilled ASE technicians, we take pride in diagnosing any diesel engine problem and providing affordable repairs. We know these types of engines inside and out.

Since we are skilled at repairing all types of problems, you can trust our technicians to ensure the repair job is done right the first time. It takes more than the right tools to repair a diesel engine. Unlike standard gasoline engines, diesel engine systems use their own compression to ignite fuel. They have significantly more compression in the chamber than gas-powered engines. This means that the air-to-gas mixture is very different as well. Due to the extreme compression, external sparking is not necessary. Built without spark plugs, a diesel engine runs more efficiently using glow plugs. Many of the new models can go for 500,000 miles without the need for a rebuild. At the first sign of any problem, it’s important to bring your vehicle to Orozco’s Auto Service for diesel engine repair.

Orozco’s Auto Service also offers many diesel engine maintenance services. One common service is “Diesel Induction Service”. A fuel induction service that is typically not part of the mileage-based maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual. Although, it should still be part of your vehicle’s maintenance routine. We recommend it every 60,000 miles or whenever you notice performance issues. Typically, diesel fuel will oxidize and form residues that deposit in fuel injectors and combustion chambers. These deposits will drastically affect your engines performance by clogging fuel injectors and creating irregular spray patterns. This service is designed for concentrated cleaning of the injection pump and injectors.

If you think your diesel engine car or truck is showing any of the above symptoms or are not sure and would like to have it diagnosed, contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Timing Belt Repair and Service Info

Timing Belt Repair

Long Beach Timing Belt Repair?

Most people don’t know much about their timing belt even though it’s one of your engine’s components that could mean it’s time for a new engine if ignored. This due to the fact that if your timing belt wears out your complete engine can seize up immediately. Luckily there’s Orozco’s Auto Service and they can help you prevent this type of disaster with some simple maintenance and or replacing your timing belt.

What is a timing belt? The timing belt or in some vehicles the timing chain keeps the top half of your engine (valves) synced to the bottom half (crankshaft). Simple put, the timing belt is a ribbed belt that is run in a specific setup on one side of a vehicle’s engine to keep the crankshaft and camshafts timed properly. In many older vehicle’s engines run with a timing belt.  But todays newer vehicles have a timing chain that is more reliable but still needs replacing eventually. The best way to find out if your vehicle has a timing belt or a chain is to refer to your vehicles maintenance schedule in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Or simply stop by Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls and one of our ASE trained Service Advisors can look it up for you. Generally, manufacturer’s recommend a maintenance schedule for timing belt replacement differs between vehicles, most timing belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles or 5 years – whichever comes sooner.

There are two types of engine timing configurations that employ timing belts: interference and non-interference. An interference engine means that the valve’s stroke and piston’s stroke occupy the same space in the cylinder at different times, so the timing belt keeps them from colliding with each other. If the timing belt snaps, the cylinder and valves will most likely hit each other, which most commonly causes bent valves but can also result in cylinder head or camshaft damage, and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage. It is possible to get lucky and not suffer any damage from a snapped timing belt on an interference engine, but very unlikely. On a non-interference engine, pistons and valves never occupy the same space, so if the timing belt snaps, no valve or cylinder damage should occur, and theoretically, replacing the broken timing belt will revert your engine to normal function.

If you’re thinking about changing your vehicle’s timing belt, it’s not just a simple task like changing a thermostat. If you get it wrong, especially on an interference-type engine, this can result in much more severe and expensive damage. At Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls our certified ASE trained technicians have the experience to replace all types of timing belts and timing chains on all makes and models. Additionally, all of our work is also backed by a NAPA nationwide 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty and for a nominal fee can easily be extended to 3 years and 36,000. Additionally, we know that there’s never a convenient time for large auto repair, and that’s why we offer easy financing (OAC) to help get you back on the road as soon as possible.

Radiator Repair Near Me Info For Everyone

Radiator Repair & Service

Long Beach Bixby Knolls Radiator Repair

Have you ever noticed that whenever there’s a car chase in a movie that the car being chased seems to always overheat followed by a stream of steam coming from under the hood? This is generally a sign that the vehicle has a damaged radiator or cooling system due to being shot or pushing the vehicle past it’s limits. As we all know, that’s just a movie. The reality about radiators is they can be a fragile component of your engine, and if not properly monitored and maintained it can fail and lead to additional costly engine repair. If you see steam coming from the radiator it is an indicator just like in the movies that your radiator has not been able to do it’s job and it can quickly lead to additional costly repairs if you continue driving.

The radiator is a component of your vehicle’s cooling system, and if it has a problem, the extremely high temperature of your engine running will cause your vehicle to overheat and likely, if ignored for even a short period it will fail. Additionally, your radiator prevents overheating by cooling the fluid that flows throughout your engine to dissipate engine heat.

Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls provides quality radiator repair and service. We can fix many types of leaks, radiator hoses, even replace with a new radiator from our 1,000’s of in-stock radiators. Occasionally you may notice water or a bright green or red colored antifreeze leaking under the vehicle this may mean there is a leak in either the radiator, the water pump, the thermostat, or one of the hoses.

Replacing the thermostat or repairing hoses is usually a fairly simple job and shouldn’t be too expensive. On the other hand repairing a radiator or water pump can be a bit more tricky depending on their location. Water pumps usually need to be replaced opposed to repaired. Radiators can be either repaired or replaced depending on the damage and area of the damage. There are sometimes instances where the radiator can be repaired, but the repair will not last and you should be cautious and get it replace as soon as possible.

Our ASE certified auto technicians have been repairing cooling systems and radiators for years. We have seen almost everything when it comes to cooling systems radiator repair. We work on all makes and models and hope you will stop by and give us the opportunity to earn your business.

Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls offers many services and repairs for your vehicle by our ASE certified mechanics. We will get the job done right at an affordable and competitive price.

Automotive Air Conditioning Repair With The Experts

Air conditioner repair

Long Beach Bixby Knolls Automotive Air Conditioning Repair

Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls is the number one choice for air conditioning repair. Your vehicle’s air conditioning system is responsible for keeping you comfortable throughout the year. As part of your overall climate control it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. So you might think that it only needs to be repaired to restore cold air that keeps you comfortable in Long Beach during our hot summers. But that’s only part of the story, drivers need to know that a broken climate control system can cause harm to some of your vehicle’s other major components year round.  Some Auto Air Conditioning problems can result in leaks that bleed corrosive fluid onto other components within your engine compartment. If neglected you may end up needing more than just Auto Air Conditioning Repair.

Below are a few signs that you may need Automotive A/C service:

A/C system starts out cold but gets warm. There are several possible causes for this problem: a faulty compressor clutch, a clogged expansion valve, a bad fuse or wire, or leaks may all cause this symptom.

Weak airflow. One of the main causes for weak airflow can be mold or mildew accumulating in the evaporator core from moisture or condensation from regular operation, a hose coming loose and decreasing air pressure, ventilation fan failure, or seals coming loose and diminishing airflow.

Foul odor coming from your A/C system. Unpleasant odors coming from your car’s vents are usually caused by a dirty, old air cabin filter or a moldy evaporator case. We can clean your A/C lines, evaporator and ventilation system. Then add a biocide used to kill all bacteria, mold and fungi. The ventilation system and interior are deodorized. The air inside your vehicle will be much healthier, smell great and the A/C will run 4 to 5 degrees cooler due to increased efficiency.

A/C system isn’t as cold as it used to be. Air conditioning losing its coolness can be caused by a number of reasons, including a Freon leak caused by a loose seal, gasket, hose, or component, a clogged hose or tube, a failed compressor or component, a failed blower motor, a damaged or failed condenser or evaporator, vacuum leaks, or a failed switch, relay, fuse, or solenoid. A leak in the air conditioning system can end up compromising the entire system. If you or your mechanic discovers the leak early, then it most likely will not have damaged as many parts, and your repair will not be as expensive.

Why Choose Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls?

Your vehicle’s climate control system is a very complicated component of your vehicle, only auto mechanics with specific training and experience should be allowed to work on it. Otherwise, you might end up with more problems than when you started! Our ASE and I-CAR Certified technicians are air conditioning experts, they can fix systems on all makes and models and help prevent additional damage. Moreover, when you choose Orozco’s Auto Service for air conditioning repair, your budget won’t limit what repairs can accomplished. That’s because we offer flexible financing options (OAC), so you can handle what your car needs without adding financial stress.

Tire Sales Info For Everyone

6tire sales

Tire sales at Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls specializes in new tire for all types of vehicles. Whether you drive a car, truck, SUV or sports car we’ve got the tires for you. We offer competitive prices and the quality of our products are never compromised. We offer a large variety of top brand tires like NEXEN, Bridgestone, B.F. Goodrich, Hankook, Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear, Toyo and numerous other unparalleled brands within the market.

Many Long Beach drivers may choose to replace their worn OEM (original equipment manufacturer) tires with aftermarket tires. Whether it’s in the interest of saving money or changing their vehicle’s performance traits. If you decide to change tires, any of our certified service advisors can suggest alternative models that best fits your needs.

If you are happy with your previous tires performance, you can of course replace them with the same model. Most auto companies spend many thousands of dollars in research and development and work with tire makers to choose the tires that best suit their vehicles. But OEM tires can be much more expensive than aftermarket ones, especially when you get them through the dealership.

Orozco’s Auto Service is you dealership alternative for tire sales

If you’re thinking about trying a different type of tire, you should choose one that best matches your driving habits, preferences, and local road conditions. “Touring” tires may provide a comfortable ride, but performance may suffer slightly. On the other hand, high performance tires may enable you to turn, stop, and accelerate quicker but can be a noisier ride and cause a rougher ride. All-season tires can provide passable performance in most conditions, but will be heavily out performed by dedicated “summer” or “winter” tires, and lastly “economy” tires are generally less expensive but can be noisy with mediocre performance but may be what works for you’re budget. We never recommended used tires or retreads, but if your budget or untimely loss of a tire only allows for used tires make sure to check that they are still safe for use.

How do you know when you should get your vehicle new tires? Always pay attention to your vehicle’s performance, tire tread depth, and the age of your tires. A general rule is that if a tire is more than six years old, even if they look new and have never been driven on, they should be inspected thoroughly before use. The tires rubber can become brittle as it ages and this can lead to tire failure or loss of performance. As a consumer, you have the right to demand newer tires if you are buying them from a retailer. To determine the date of a tire’s manufacture, look for a series on the sidewall that begins with “DOT”. The last four numbers in this sequence will tell you the week and year that a tire was made. For example, 1222 means that the tire was made in the 12th week of 2022.

We recommend that you start shopping for new tires when your tread wears to 4/32 of an inch. This is just enough tread to sluice away water and keep your tires in contact with the road. The most common tread depth on new tires is 10/32 of an inch. The legal minimum in most states is 2/32 of an inch.

Wear Bars. Manufacturer’s place wear bars in the grooves between tire treads. Replace your tires before the tread wears flush with the bars. Even on dry pavement, it takes longer to stop with bald tires. On wet pavement, you may not be able to avoid a hazard in time.

The Tire Tread Quarter Test. A us quarter, placed upside down in the tread grooves at several points, is a helpful gauge in determining a safe tread depth. From the coin edge to the top of Washington’s head is 4/32 inch.

The Tire Tread Penny Test. In most states to maintain legal tires, your tires must be at least 2/32 of an inch deep if you use the penny test. From the coin edge to the top of Lincoln’s head is is within the legal limit.

Taking Care of Your New Tires

Periodic alignment checks and suspension checks. Even under the best conditions your wheels will move slightly out of alignment over time. This can result in them fighting for control over each other, reduce fuel efficiency, and cause premature tread wear. And worn shocks, struts, and other suspension components can also effect the life of your tire.

Rotate your tires. This helps ensure that your tires wear evenly. Most tire manufacturers recommend a 6,000-8,000 mile interval. It’s great way to remember to rotate your tires is have it done when you’re in for an oil change.

Always keep your tires inflated to the recommended pressure. Your vehicle won’t handle well if your cars are too soft or too hard. Under or over inflation can even cause a blowout. Consult your owner’s manual or check the vehicle placard for the specified PSI (pounds per square inch) for your tires. (See Tire Size above.) Properly inflated wear tires wear evenly and can help you get up to 3% better gas mileage.

If you believe your tires are worn out or are not sure and would like to have them checked contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Remember, always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Synthetic Oil Change May Be The Best Move!

Nissan Oil Change

Long Beach Bixby Knolls new car owners are sometimes surprised when they’re told their new vehicle can only use synthetic oil. Additionally, they’re more surprised to discover getting a synthetic oil change is about twice the price as the standard oil change. So when did this new costly upgrade happen and will it really benefit me and my vehicle?

Well it all started around 2019 when about 70% of all newer vehicles began to recommend using synthetic oil or a synthetic blend oil for their engines. We’ll get into synthetic blends in a later article, for now lets stick with synthetic oil. Synthetic oils are generally the better choice for performance and the longevity of your vehicle. This is based on the fact that synthetic oil protects your engine due to lower levels of friction which  protect your engine better at extreme high and low tempters. Moreover, synthetic oils don’t break down as quickly as standard oils meaning you can go further distances in between regular oil changes that help save money down the road.

So lets look a little deeper into what is synthetic oil. To generally sum it up, it’s artificially made from a variety of chemical compounds. They are then broken down and then rebuilt into new petroleum molecules. However, The base material, is still made mostly of crude oil that is distilled and then modified physically and chemically. There are many types of synthetics oils available with distinctly different properties and applications that vary based on the ultimate needs of your vehicle.

Here are some of the benefits when using Synthetic Oil:

  • Synthetics have a naturally higher viscosity index. Meaning, the viscosity changes less as temperature changes during normal engine startup and operating conditions as a result of being a more stable compound than standard oil.
  • Synthetic oil has a longer lifespan than conventional oil. The recommended change interval for synthetic oil is around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles or 6 to 8 months, with some brands lasting much longer (15,000 to 25,000).
  • Synthetic engine oils are generally less volatile than standard oils. This means there is less loss of the oil to the engine’s exhaust stream causing air pollution. This could also mean less need for adding oil between oil changes.
  • At extremely low temperatures, it is possible for mineral oils to become so thick (high viscosity) that the oil is non-pumpable making it unable to circulate effectively within the engine.
  • Getting a longer engine life in most vehicles. Many Long Beach Bixby Knolls drivers have never owned a vehicle that lasted long enough to hit the 200,000 miles mark on their engine. But, with so many new vehicles using synthetic oils these days we will soon see more drivers every year achieving that goal.

In conclusion, for many vehicles, synthetic oils could be a better choice for overall engine operation, performance and longevity. Unless the biggest factor in making your selection of lubrication is only based on cost. If you like the idea of fewer oil changes, upgrading to synthetic oil is the wisest choice, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Long Beach Bixby Knolls today at 562-427-4256. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!
